Champion Celebrates 10,000th Compressor

26/04/07 - Champion has produced its 10,000th Australian-designed and built compressor. At a ceremony held today at the company's headquarters in Melbourne, Victoria's Minister for Industry and State Development, Theo Theophanous, presented Champion Compressors with a commemorative plaque, recognising this milestone and the company's ongoing commitment to local industry.

Coupled with the company's proven domestic and export success, this most recent accolade positions Champion Compressors as a leader in Australia's industrial engineering landscape.

"This 10,000th compressor milestone is a significant achievement that represents approximately $250 million in import replacement value," said Mr Theophanous. "Champion Compressors is setting a great example for other Victorian manufacturers and continues to demonstrate how Australian companies can leverage their unique experience of local conditions to build domestic market-share and win export sales."

The tribute from Minister Theophanous was delivered following an extensive factory tour of Champion’s facilities. According to Champion Compressor’s managing director, Wayne St Baker, the plaudit from the Victorian State Minister was testament to Champion’s industry-leading position. “We’re very proud indeed to have been recognised for this achievement,” said St Baker. “Champion Compressors boasts over 30 years of experience in designing and manufacturing tailored compressed air solutions for Australian and international industry. This level of recognition from the State Government is truly a great honour.”

Exploring the company’s recipe for success, Mr Theophanous said that Champion’s accomplishments have been achieved by a commitment to quality; a strong global focus; ongoing investment in R&D and advanced manufacturing methods; and an ability to identify and capture niche opportunities.

Mr Theophanous said that the Victorian Government was working together with companies like Champion Compressors to promote and develop Victoria’s vitally important manufacturing sector. “The Bracks Government has assisted Champion in participating in several overseas trade missions and exhibitions, as well as providing seed funding and support to industry groups, such as the AUSEN Oil & Gas Network,” he said.
